Newsletter after almost two years of radio silence.

Welcome Back

Dear all,

It was a very good idea to send a newsletter every once in a while but because of the huge amount of work and lack of time this habit came to an end. Well, not anymore; by request of many you find here, after almost two years of radio silence, our latest newsletter.
A lot has happened in the last two years. Our studio expanded, we did a lot of interior design, worked on some new products and most important; we had a really good time.
It would carry to far to mention all of our activities of the last two years so I will limit myself to some highlights.
For now I would like to welcome you all back from your holidays and wish you all the best for the rest of this year.

JB Lorenz

JB Lorenz

One of our favourite projects this year was definitely the interior design for the JB Lorenz office in Hoogvliet.
For this relatively small office we had a lot of creative freedom. We chose to create a domestic, almost cosy atmosphere. The main item is the big oak table in the centre of the office around which we placed six, wool furbished, oak chairs and one very nice office chair. The office chair is for the secretary who is the only one in the office all day. Whenever the owners are in they can put their laptop on the table and use one of the oak chairs. With six chairs around it, the table also functions perfectly as conference table. The Washi panels in front of the windows beautifully filter daylight. Our own black Hoppies are above the table.
Furthermore we installed a nice sitting area with our Easy Chairs. One wall is covered with a cliché wallpaper of a forest. The wall paperer thought we were crazy as we wanted the top of the forest glued at the bottom of the image but afterwards he was very proud of the result.
And so are we.

Culturalis Theatre The Hague

Culturalis
Together with Birgit Varenkamp we designed the facade for the Culturalis Theatre in The Hague. We provided the facade with beautiful printed curtain panels. On the glass windows we fixed a red dotted translucent window sticker pattern.

The mission of the Culturalis theatre is increasing the cultural participation of the citizens of The Hague. Besides stimulating and showing new talents, the theatre aims for a new audience, especially the multicultural people in the colourful urban quarter “Schilderswijk”.

new low tables for the Willem the Kooning Academy

Low Table DBKV

For the Willem the Kooning Academy in Rotterdam we designed a new side table to go with our Easy Chairs. Students tended to use the Easy Chairs as side tables and footstools which resulted in pretty dirty chairs. The DBKV low tables are meant to put your coffee, feet or anything else on and so help to save the chairs.
The side table is pretty strong and very durable as it is covered in rubber.

Inspiring Amalia

Penthouse in Amalia

To inspire potential buyers of the apartments at "de grote prins" in Rotterdam, BOO decorated small parts of the penthouses.

Schiecentrale

Schiecentrale

Ever since we furnished two model apartments at the Schiecentrale in Rotterdam, we were asked for many jobs there varying from construction work to complete interiors. The clip above is taken from a promotion film of the “open up your eyes” campaign for the Schiecentrale

Magnet boards

Also for the DBKV, part of the Willem the Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, we disigned these Magnet Boards for posters and other announcements.

BOO Supports Atelier Favela

One of my former students, Sabine Harmes, departed a few years ago for Brazil and started in the Favela's of Rio de Janeiro: Atelier Favela
Atelier Favela is a place full of love and inspiration for adults and children from the slums of Rio de Janeiro.
Atelier Favela is a place where people from different origins come to learn from each other and work together.
Brazilian or European, from the slums or University, artist or waste-collector, together they aim on creating a social consciousness and improving the violent situations in the slums of Rio de Janeiro.

Boo's Rotterdam guide

AVA living

Boo was asked by Ehren Seeland of Ava Living to be a guide to Rotterdam. The idea was to have a resource list for people that would be visiting Rotterdam with my favourite spots. Busy as I am I created the concept but had my daughter Sammie do the writing. You can find it here:

Together with Tangerine BOO decorated the "Centrum voor Jeugd en Gezin" in MiddelHarnis.

Susan completed her retail design master.

After two years, an amazingly short period, Susan recently successfully completed her Retail Design Master at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam after her Interior Design Bachelor.
Retail Design is one of the most challenging areas of interior architecture. The retail area gives the designer the possibility to get to know all the different parties involved.

BOO's 5th!

We almost forgot, but thanks to the Chamber of Commerce who was so kind to send us a reminder we now know that July was our 5th anniversary!
